In Salt Lake City, Utah handled Washington 77-56 on Sunday. The score was a much tighter 37-30 after the initial 20 minutes. Delon Wright produced nine assists, five points and three rebounds for the Utes.

Princeton 96, Rowan 48

Princeton doubled up on Rowan last night 96-48 with the Bay Area connection being sophomore Henry Caruso's nine boards and eight points in 17 minutes of play.

Irvine 78, Hawaii 72

Count this as a big win for UC Irvine as the Anteaters topped Hawaii over in the islands last night 78-72. In 29 minutes, Will Davis scored 17 points and added eight boards,

For the Rainbow Warriors, Roderick Bobbitt finished with 10 points, five steals and four assists.

Irvine's 7-foot-6 center was again absent due to injury.

* Yuba College 83 - Solano College 48

From the Appeal-Democrat:

"Vasilije Saraba piled up 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in a little more than a half of play before the Yuba College men's team went to the bench in an 83-48 victory against visiting Solano College on Saturday in Linda.

The 49ers kept pace with College of Marin atop the Bay Valley Conference standings as the Mariners beat Los Medanos 71-65. Both teams are 8-1 in conference.

Jalen Coates scored 12 points and dished out six assists, Manny Malou posted a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, and Barry Ogalue netted 14 points for Yuba..."

From the Daily Republic: "Koree Cox poured in 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Solano Community College men’s basketball team from suffering an 83-48 rout at the hands of Yuba College, Saturday."

For the Jags, Chris (Delano High) Sterling led with 21 points and added eight boards plus five assists, Maurice Joiner enjoyed a 16 and 10 double-double with Stevenaire (Mt. Eden High) Young producing a 12 and 10 double-double.

* College of Marin 71 - Los Medanos College 65

"Pierre Carter scored 26 points to help guide the College of Marin men's basketball team to its fifth consecutive victory with a 73-65 home win against Los Medanos on Saturday.

The Mariners (17-3, 8-1 Bay Valley Conference) picked up an important victory two days after surging into a first-place tie by defeating previously unbeaten Yuba.

"I'm definitely proud of our guys," COM coach Dave Granucci said. "It was one of those trap games. You get a big win, a real important win for your team and program in playing Yuba and you have to come back and can't have a letdown. ... There were some tough stretches tonight but we hung tough and were able to pull it out."

COM had an 11-point lead at the half but Los Medanos (3-17, 0-9) got hot from long range and took a one-point lead. COM responded with a run of its own and was able to put the game to bed with a few minutes to spare.

Granucci credited Carter, Bobby Reeves and Miller Blake with making some key plays late to help secure the win.

"We made enough plays down the stretch and got enough stops to secure a win with a few minutes left in the game," Granucci said. "It wasn't pretty but, for the week we've had at Mendocino on Tuesday then Yuba at home then a day and a half later playing Los Medanos — a dangerous team — on Saturday, I was really happy with what we accomplished this week.

Former Drake High standout Luke Chavez had 12 points for COM. Blake added 11 while Reeves and George Johnson each scored nine."

For the Thunderbirds, Leo (Oakland Tech) Smith scored 22 points on just seven shots, Jovontae (El Cerrito High) Carleton produced 20 and Rodney (Freedom High) Pope went for 18.

From CCC Men's Basketball: "The Comets struggled on defense and with ball control this afternoon, turning the ball over 21 times en route to a 91-81 defeat at the hands of #9 Merritt College. G Tajai Johnson led the Comets with 24 pts and 4 reb while G Dawson Johnson added 15 pts and 5 ast. F Justin Johnson added 12 pts, 7 ast, and 5 reb."

"Nick Hilton finished with a game-high 18 points, including six 3-pointers, in state-ranked No. 2 Fresno City College’s 68-61 victory over Columbia in a Central Valley Conference men’s basketball game Saturday.

The Rams trailed 7-0 before capturing the lead at the 11:45 mark when Hilton drained consecutive 3-pointers as Fresno City (21-3, 5-0) moved ahead 16-10 and never looked back in handing Columbia (14-7, 5-1) its first conference loss. Marquell Hubbard led the Claim Jumpers with 13 points."

"Butte extended its winning streak to seven games with a 77-68 road win over Shasta Saturday night.

The Roadrunners, ranked 12th in the state, shook off a narrow deficit in the first five minutes but got in a groove with its inside-out game between Michael Shoemaker in the paint and leaving the outside open for Jud Sailsbery to bury 3-pointers.

Sailsbery, who finished with 19 points on four three-pointers, nailed treys on two straight possessions at the 9:35 mark in the first half to give Butte a double digit lead that would hold until early in the second half.

Shasta cut it to five with 3:57 remaining on a transition bucket from Andrew Fitzhugh following a Blake Marchant steal. But Butte wasted no time to build its lead back to 14 as another Sailsbery trey ignited a 7-0 run and Shasta couldn’t get closer than seven the rest of the way..."

It was down in La Jolla but that made no difference for Humboldt State's guys as they won by 10 last night, 83-73, over UC San Diego. For the Jacks, David Howard and Austin Bryan each scored 16 points.

Udun (Fresno City College) Osakue paced the Gators with 22 points and Derrick Brown provided 20 as host San Francisco State handled Cal State Los Angeles 69-60. Bren (Pleasant Valley High) Haley passed out nine assists.

It was on the road Saturday yet Chico State still grabbed a wide margin victory over Cal State Monterey Bay 78-56. Jordan (Arcata High) Semple led the Wildcats in both categories with his 16 points plus 10 boards and teammate Drew Kitchen nailed 4-6 shots from long range to finish with 14.

Last night up in Rohnert Park, Sonoma State was led by 18 points apiece from James (Northern Colorado/Arroyo High) Davis and J.J. (Colorado State Pueblo/Bradshaw Christian High) Mina but fell 73-67 to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Over in Hayward last night, Cal State Stanislaus turned back host Cal State East Bay 77-67. Of the northern California talents for Stanislaus, Chris (Ohlone College/Castro Valley High) Read scored 10 points and Kurt (Calaveras High) Gouveia tallied nine.

For the Pioneers, Cody (Humboldt State/Rocklin High) Kale's 10-11 at the foul line powered him to 16 points with Jacari (St. Joseph Notre Dame High) Whitfield supplying 13 points plus five assists.

Sacramento St. 78, Weber St. 71

Back in Ogden on Saturday, Sacramento State topped Weber State 78-71 as Mikh McKinney went for 33 points (5-7 from long distance) as well as seven assists (and zero turnovers), Dylan Garrity contributed 18 points with Cody Demps supplying 10 boards, eight points plus five assists.

In Fort Collins last night, Colorado State was six points better than San Diego State 79-73. Aztec fans can take heart however because Malik Pope put up 22 points (9-11 overall shooting, 4-4 from long distance) and grabbed seven boards in 28 minutes.

It was 24 apiece at the half on Saturday in San Luis Obispo before Cal Poly turned it on and won going away against UC Riverside 68-49. For the Highlanders, Taylor Johns posted a line of 19 points and seven rebounds.

In Missoula last night, Montana got the better of Southern Utah 58-56. Mario Dunn finished with 14 points plus a team best seven rebounds.

It took a while for the Gaels to get it going but soon enough it was the Moraga-ites by 10 over Portland on Saturday 74-64. Brad Waldow provided 19 points plus nine boards for the victors. Bryce Pressley supplied 18 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Pilots.

Up in The City, Loyola Marymount overcome a 13 point halftime deficit to down USF 70-69 last night. Mark Tollefsen tied for first on his team with 19 points on 9-12 shooting.
