Seahawks come back beat MPC, win Coast Conference South Championship outright 60-56
The Cabrillo College Seahawks won a thriller tonight versus Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey 60-56. The win earns the Seahawks a third straight Coast Conference South Championship and their fifth in the last seven years.
Cabrillo (19-7, 10-1) came out and played well early in the first half and took a lead mid way thru 24-16. That didn't last long as MPC rallied back. The Seahawks went into the locker room up one,30-29.
In the second half, MPC (8-17, 3-7) jumped on the Seahawks and went up 47-32 with 16:42 to go. Slowly the Seahawks began to crawl back into the lead as they found themselves down eight with 5:00 minutes to play.
After a Colin Gruber three= point shot Cabrillo had tied the score at 51 with 2:38 to play. A DK White layup put the Seahawks up with 1:37 to go. The Seahawks then responded with a defensive stop and a Colin Gruber rebound followed by a tough Colin Gruber pull up from 9-feet to put the Seahawks up 58-54 with :25 to play. A quick basket by MPC cut the lead to two with :21 remaining. Cabrillo turned the ball over with :12 left. MPC missed a runner from six-feet and Dalton Noble got the rebound with 3.4 to go and made both free throws for the 60-56 win.
Colin Gruber lead all scorers with 24 points. DK White scored 13 points.
