Ed Madec has seen his Fresno City College men's basketball team win two state titles in his six seasons as its coach.
The defending champs will look to start their run toward a third under Madec Saturday, when the postseason opens with a Northern California Regional game against Merritt.
The second-seeded Rams (24-6) host the No. 15 Thunderbirds (15-12) at 7:30 p.m.
Merritt beat No. 18 American River 63-62 in a play-in game Wednesday.
"Long, real athletic and talented," Madec said of Merritt. "It's going to be a tough game, and we have our hands full."
