UCSC downs La Verne

The UCSC Banana Slugs closed out it homecourt schedule with a 46-44 victory over La Verne on Saturday as the Santa Cruz Sentinel reports:

James (Sacramento High) Townsend scored a game-high 14 points to lead the UC Santa Cruz men's basketball team past La Verne 46-44 in the Slugs' home finale at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Saturday.

Townsend added eight rebounds and five steals for UCSC (4-16), which will play at Occidental College on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Spencer Wells had 10 points, two steals and two blocks, while Matthew Ponce contributed nine points and a team-high two assists.

Ilan (Summerfield Waldorf High) Zur pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the Slugs.
