* Cosumnes River College 85 - San Joaquin Delta College 73
Dave Campbell game reports:
"...In the men's game, the Hawks quickly ran their eight-point halftime lead to 13 points and eventually led by 20. A spirited comeback by the Mustangs came up short.
“Cosumnes River deserved to win,” Delta coach Rich Ressa said. “They played with more of an edge and more purpose. The right team won tonight.”
Twice late in the game, Delta (13-5, 3-2) closed to within 14 and both times the Mustangs followed those baskets with a steal, only to throw the ball away. Jordan Belasco’s 3-pointer with 2:16 remaining again narrowed the deficit to 14 and started a 7-2 run for Delta with Belasco scoring all seven points, drawing the Mustangs within 78-67 with 1:53 remaining.
After a ferocious offensive rebound by Troy Anderson, Belasco hit another 3-pointer with 1:01 left to make it 82-72, but that was as close as the Mustangs would come. Belasco led Delta with 17 points — all in the second half — followed by Anderson with 15 and Dwayne Lee with 13.
Anderson’s defensive prowess has been a mainstay of the Delta attack and he came into the game with the second-best rebounding average in the state at 13.3 per game. Anderson made it a double-double when he tallied 15 rebounds to go with his 15 points and he had five steals down the stretch.
Mitchell Love of the Hawks (12-8, 3-2) scored a game-high 21 points."
