The West Valley Elite (WVE) 17u girls basketball team skunked opponents, going 5-0, in the Nike Tournament of Champions tournament held in Atlanta in late July. The South Bay crew went 5-0. The scores:
* West Valley 43 - Fairfax Stars 19
* West Valley 64 - Tennessee Trotters 29
* West Valley 50, Cal Storm 32
* West Valley 61 - Blue Star Florida 23
* West Valley 44 - Kentucky Premier 35
In the matchup with the Trotters, West Valley scored 48 points in the first half, missing just three shots and committing but a single turnover.
Among the standouts for West Valley:
6-foot-1 and a half 2019 prospect Haley (Archbishop Mitty) Jones, the daughter of two high school coaches, played point the entire time. She is already a national recruit and expectations are for her to grow at least a couple of more inches.
Delaney (Monte Vista Christian High) Moore, standing 6-foot-0 and residing in the 2017 class, also played very well.
6-foot Emily (Santa Rosa High) Codding, a 2017 guard, attracted further attention. She already possesses offers from St. Mary's and Pacific.
Jones, Moore and Codding were honored as outstanding performers.
Three other WVE players made strong impressions:
Allie (Pacific Grove High) Patton has returned to the Central Coast after time in Arkansas. At 5-foot-7, West Valley Coach Bob Bramlett called her "raw offensively but our best point guard defender. She's tough as nails and she holds herself and our team accountable."
6-foot-3 Lizzie (Valley Christian High) Moore in the 2018 class has continued to impress. As ESPN's Eric Olson said of her: "...Moore is a solid mid-major back-to-the-basket post player with some face up game in the key. She plays with a blue collar persona..."
Alyssa (St. Ignatius High) Downs is a 5-foot-9 pure shooter and a 2018 talent.
