"Malik Pope, San Diego State: Athletic SF/PF who hasn't fully taken advantage of his his physical tools and turned it into on court skills. 6'9" with a 7'2" wingspan and excellent frame. Still room to fill out frame at 205 pounds - can add more muscle. Young for his class - will be 20 at time of 2017 Draft as a junior. Explosive around the rim - can play above the rim. Average speed in the open court but agile in the half court. Looks the part of a NBA wing or small ball PF if he can improve his skill set.
Effective three point shooter (38% for career on 4.7 attempts per 40) but mechanics leave questions as to whether he can stretch that to NBA range. Slow release, mechanical - ball goes all over the place. Has been efficient so it seems to work for him but will have to prove it at NBA range.
Miscellaneous two point scorer - cuts, some pick and rolls, some post-ups, transition. Mostly around the rim. Just 41% on 2's - poor mark for his shot selection and size. Doesn't finish tough - just 3.0 FTA per 40. Can finish above the rim but lacks touch, feel for the defense and scoring instincts at the rim.
Feel for the game is poor - runs around with his head cut off looking to screen. Holds the ball and jacks up contested long 2's. Still learning how to play offensively. Can be a guy who can get some miscellaneous buckets but needs to put it all together offensively. More potential than production so far offensively..."
