Foothill College at 5-2

With Foothill College owning a 5-2 record and a three-game winning streak, just how have the Owls accomplished just that? It's trite to write but call it a team effort spearheaded by some standouts.

Former Archbishop Mitty guard Matt McAndrews at 6-foot-1 is averaging 19.6 points per game, 6-foot-4 Alex Gil-Fernandez is next at 12.7 points followed by Chris Russell at 10.3. The former and latter have come down from Gunn High and all three are freshmen.

Gill-Fernandez leads in rebounding at 6.2 an outing. 6-foot-5 sophomore Vito Coppola (from New Mexico) is grabbing 5.3 and another freshman, 5-foot-10 Aaron Moore, is nabbing 4.5 a contest. He's from Fremont High.

Another freshman, 6-foot-3 DeAngelo Blackwell out of Homestead High, is averaging 8.6 points.

The opponents and results thus far (no home games although trekking to San Jose required minimal travel distance:

* Sat. 5 vs. Porterville @ San Jose Tournament W, 72-65

* Fri. 11 at Santa Rosa L, 91-84 - OT

* Fri. 18 vs. Merritt @ Shasta Tournament W, 64-56

* Sat. 19 vs. Santa Rosa @ Shasta Tournament W, 59-54

* Sun. 20 vs. Diablo Valley @ Shasta Tournament W, 71-47
