Foothill College sports a 10-5 record, one that is all the more remarkabkle because 6-foot-1 freshman Matt (Archbishop Mitty) McAndrews, arguably the top Owl talent, has participated in just seven games due to injury. With each contest he is absent, 18.1 points, 3.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds must be made up as well as 49% overall shooting, 43% from long distance and 80% at the foul line.
Then there is the youth, and therefore inexperience, of the team but the kids seem to be doing alright.
Freshman Alex (Gunn High) Gil-Fernandez is bringing 14.8 points an outing as well as a team-best 6.2 rebounds. 6-foot-5 Chris (Gunn High) Russell, another frosh, is is on the edge of double figures at 9.9 while also providing 3.1 boards and fellow frosh DeAngelo (Homestead High) Blackwell is scoring at an 8.2 rate.
The Owls are not a large and physically strong team but run their system, one in which revolves around the whole exceeding the sum of the parts, regardless of presses and special defenses. It involves player spacing plus player and ball movement resulting in the development of good looks at the basket.
