The CSU Monterey Bay men's basketball team put a season-high 10 players on the scoring ledger to roll past Cal State East Bay 98-72 Saturday night in The Kelp Bed.

The win lifts CSUMB (5-6, 1-3 CCAA) to within a game of .500 after 11 games for the first time since coach Rob Bishop's squad opened the 2008-09 season 9-2. Freshman guard Alex Fertig led the Otters with 25 points in 25 minutes, his fourth 20-point game of the season...

CS East Bay topples SF State

It was Cal State East Bay in a come-from-behind 80-76 victory over host San Francisco State on Friday night.

USF 74, CSEB 58

USF handled Cal State East Bay 73-58 last night behind a team-leading 18 points from De'End Parker but the game was much closer than the final score.

Gabe Kindred's 14 points paced the Pioneers.

Guess who is making some noise this season?

It's Cal State East Bay in Hayward.

The Pioneers, led by Coach Will Biggs, are currently 4-2 after taking down Sonoma State and perennial league power Humboldt State.

A member of the California College Athletic Association, CSEB currently tops the conference in scoring (88.5 points per contest) and is shooting 47% as a team.

Full of local and regional flavor, the Pioneers feature former Berkeley High star Mark Samuels, a 6-foot junior who is averaging 20.5 points per game (up from 14.3 last season) and shooting 56% overall.

Plus, 6-foot-2 senior Roshun Wynne is an Oakland native who is putting up 16.5 points each time out.

Former Rodriguez High and Las Positas College frontcourter Nick Marshall is showing his inside prowess with 6.4 rebounds along with a pair of blocked shots a contest as a 6-foot-6 junior.

Out of St. Joseph Notre Dame, 5-foot-7 Jacari Whitfield has joined up this season. He is averaging 9.7 points per contest, shooting 48% overall and 43% from long distance.

Other northern California talents on the squad are:

* Vincent Capellino, forward, 6-foot-6, junior (College of the Redwoods)

* Kenneth Farr II, forward, 6-foot-5, sophomore (Salesian High)

* Adam Watts, guard, 6-foot-3, senior, (Modesto Christian High/Modesto Junior College)

* Jurrell Turner, forward, 6-foot5, junior (Mt. Eden High/Mendocino College) -- he is averaging 9.7 points per game this season

* Ota Okungbowa, forward, 6-foot-2, freshman (Monterey Trail High)

As mentioned, the coaching staff is headed by Will Biggs currently in his 15th season. He has previously headed the programs at Ohlone College and James Logan High.

Darren French is Biggs' top assistant, a James Logan alum now in his third season. French has been on the bench at Cal State San Bernardino, Howard College in Texas, Colorado Northwestern Community College plus Tyler College also in Texas, Ventura College and also UC Riverside.

 Ray Villegas also work as a Pioneer assistant coach.
