A little more on Casey Arent

Based on this tweet from Jeff Goodman, Sierra College's Casey Arent may end up as the lone 'real' big for new Sooner Coach Lon Kruger:

Oklahoma 6-foot-9 signee Robert Goff has been released from his letter of intent, Hutchinson JC assistant Ryan Freeberg told FOXSports.com.

Also, here's an article from OK.com in which Arent's strengths are laid out and the young man is also quoted.

Casey Arent visiting Oklahoma

Former Del Oro High and current Sierra College big Casey Arent was on a visit to the Oklahoma campus Thursday. Here's a note on the 6-foot-10 young man courtesy of the OUHoops site (scroll down to the second item).

A good article on the Sierra College basketball program

From the Placer Herald:

Homework before hardwood for Wolverines

John Fusano is all up in his players’ business all the time, and the Sierra College men’s basketball coach could not care less if anyone thinks he is being too intrusive.

Let’s face it. He is.

Free time is a rare commodity for the Wolverines. After classes, players go to the team’s study hall for one hour. That is followed by a two-hour practice, weights for 45 minutes and film study.

Basketball might as well be a part-time job. The players punch the clock most days for five hours...

The best junior college talents in northern California?

Here's a stab at the top basketballers in northern California junior college play this season:

* Casey Arent, center

21.8 ppg., 11.3 rpg.

He can write his college future if he nails the grades.

* Julian Welch, guard

20.2 ppg.

Not a lot of three-pointers made but he creates and is always at the foul line

* Peter Pappageorge

20.4 ppg.

Some doubt his body and athletic ability in the D-1 ranks but Canada is 9-0 and nobody can stop him from scoring

* Collin Chiverton

19.1 ppg.

Just get it/keep it together personally and that will flow over on to the court -- he's a remarkable talent

* Jonathan Williams

14.5 ppg.

Strong and athletic, he'll be a solid and complementary guy at the next level

Okay, who are we missing and, just as importantly, why should your nomination be here?

Del Oro grad is Sierra's center of attention
Cecil Conley, Sports Editor
Placerville Herald

Casey Arent is aware of what is at stake when he stays home instead of going out with his buddies. The 2008 Del Oro High School graduate’s social life will have to suffer for the time being.

His future in basketball is far more important. The 6-foot-10 center is being recruited by universities such as Cal, Washington State and Colorado. A scholarship is easily within his reach.

All the Sierra College sophomore has to do now is become eligible to transfer. He is taking 19 units this semester and will do so again during the spring in hopes of making his dream a reality...
