Sohn Nijor of Leigh and Stephen Anderson of Piedmont Hills shared the MVP award for the boys in the Mount Hamilton Division. Muktar Abdi of Willow Glen was the Senior of the Year, Trevor Priest of Santa Teresa was the Junior of the Year and Nate Vieira of Oak Grove was the Sophomore of the Year.

The members of the all-league first team were Deven Patterson and Trevor Peterson of Leigh, Justin Dueck of Leland, Denzal Copeland and Spencer Koopmans of Santa Teresa and Martin Greer and Jalen Robertson of Piedmont Hills.

Westmont had a pair of players named to the all-league second team in junior Nick Wahl and senior Alex Kamara. The rest of the second team included Donald Rodriguez and Vieira of Oak Grove, Nedim Mekanic of Willow Glen, P.J. Nelson of Piedmont Hills and Dylan Bell of Leland.

Former San Jose Stater and Newark Memorial High star Marquin Chandler has signed with Benfica, a club in Portugal.

From one note by Luis Filipe Cristovao on March 16:

Sport Lisboa Benfica finally found a substitute to Mike Williams. Its Marquin Chandler (202-F-82, college: San Jose St.), a 28 years old Power Forward, with 2.02m.

Chandler finished college in San Jose St. and made his pro rookie year in Philippines. Despite a try in Belgium and a year in USA, Marquin Chandler stayed almost all his career in Asia, playing in countries like Singapore, Philippines, South Korea and Bahrein, where he spent his last months, in Al Ahli Manama.

Remember Marquin Chandler?

Do you recall Marquin Chandler at Newark Memorial High, then George Washington University and a return home to San Jose State?

He played for some time in the Philippines and now has been active in South Korea the past few seasons.

Here's are Chandler-related excerpts from a Korea Times article on this season's Korean Basketball League:

"The [SK] Knights has solidified its lineup, bringing in ... forward Marquin Chandler from Donbgu ... Chandler also showed his strength on the court, with 16.2 points from 54 games in the regular season, and averaged 15 per game in the Promy’s seven playoff games last season. Promy."

Marquin Chandler knows his quest for a championship with Purefoods will be a long journey.

Last night, the former Philippine Basketball Association Best Import did not waste time and buckled down to work quickly, steering his team to an inspiring 92-85 triumph over Coca-Cola in the Motolite-PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

Chandler finished with 30 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks as he assumed the familiar leader’s role for a team, which he led once to the finals in the 2005 to 2006 season...
