A great Robby Rowland diary

Robby Rowland kept a diary from just prior to the major league baseball draft until he and his brother were aligned with a team. Go here to the Nor Cal Preps site to read it.

Robby Rowland to the Yankees?

Frankie Piliere, the National MLB Analyst for Fanhouse, has a post up in which he wrote the following:
"UPDATE (6/6 - 1:50 AM) - Yankee fans are desperate to hear what their team will do at the back of the round. Now, there is some real noteworthy information rolling in on New York's preferences. High on their short list is prep right-hander Robby Rowland, according to sources. Rowland is a tall, projectable hard thrower and would be a very interesting gamble at 32nd overall. It's difficult to tell if they are looking at him with their first pick or the 82nd overall pick, but he doesn't figure to be available that low."
Rowland is also a star basketballer at Cloverdale High as well as a member of the Bay Area Hoosiers club basketball team.

Here is an article on Robby's baseball signing with Oregon.

Here is a Santa Rosa Press Democrat feature on Robby.

This one is a recent article on Robby working out at AT&T Park, with his brother Richie -- himself quite the baseballer -- taking a turn in the batting cage.

Robby Rowland is a baseballer too

Besides playing basketball for Cloverdale High and the Bay Area Hoosiers, Robby Rowland is quite the pitcher -- one who just might end up in the major leagues. He recently accomplished a perfect game.

The kid with the perfect ERA now has a perfect game to accompany it.

Cloverdale senior Robby Rowland added to his laundry list of athletic accomplishments Wednesday by tossing a perfect game in a 2-0 win at Clear Lake.

Rowland, a 6-foot-6 right-hander who has signed with Oregon, struck out 13 and needed just 71 pitches — 53 strikes — to record the first perfect game of his career.

Rowland, who is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, has thrown 27 scoreless innings this season — allowing four walks, nine hits (all singles) and striking out 49. Avenal's Jerry Jordan (1970) owns the state record for most consecutive scoreless innings with 59...

St. Mary's gets by Cloverdale

Robby Rowland and Company almost pulled it off. Here are a couple of game reports:

CLOVERDALE – The Cloverdale boys' basketball team's memorable season and the historic career of Robby Rowland ended here Saturday night thanks to an opponent that in the end was quicker, fresher and two baskets better.

The sixth-seeded Eagles, the smallest public school among the North Coast Section's 24 Division IV teams, fell to No. 3 St. Mary's, 64-60, in the NCS quarterfinals. Cloverdale led 30-27 at halftime and was tied at 56 with three minutes left, but the Eagles (27-3) missed five of their final six shots and their upset bid fell short. The Panthers (21-9), winners of two NCS titles in the past three years, escaped despite making just 7 of 18 second-half free throws. St. Mary's helped offset their free-throw woes by corralling four missed foul shots...

Cloverdale met a team that was quicker, bigger and stronger in a game that was called to that teams advantage. But in the end, one of the most basic things in basketball, getting a rebound when the other team is shooting free throws, cost them a epic upset as St. Mary's pulled out a 64-60 win.

The loss not only ended Cloverdale's hope for the school's first Nor Cal berth since the mid 80's, but ended the great high school career of Robby Rowland. Rowland scored a game high 26 points, so his Sonoma County scoring career scoring record target will sit at 2,548 points, which unofficially is 26th All-Time in the State...

You knew it was coming but that doesn't detract one bit from a marvelous personal achievement -- congrats to Robby Rowland for all the time and hard work he put in to make this happen:

CLOVERDALE -- The sports-obsessed kid who has slept with a basketball and baseball for as long as his mom can remember went to bed Friday night with something else that he'll cherish: The title as the most prolific scorer in Empire boys' basketball history.

Cloverdale High's Robby Rowland, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, made a 3-pointer with 2:51 left in the first quarter of the Eagles' 78-42 win against St. Helena on Friday night to break the 13-year-old record of 2,389 points held by Rincon Valley Christian's Rich Waller, who watched from the stands...

Robby Rowland impresses

How come the football coach hasn't gotten Robby Rowland out on the gridiron?

I left Cloverdale on Friday night convinced that I’d seen the best basketball player in the Empire.

Cloverdale’s Robby Rowland, a 6-foot-6 senior guard/forward, had 39 points, 14 rebounds and made 16 of 26 shots in three quarters of action in the Eagles’ 93-50 rout of Clear Lake.

Rowland was an all-state Division V pick as a junior and he’s even better this season...

Cloverdale's Robby Rowland is unstoppable

Cloverdale High's Robby Rowland -- also a Bay Area Hoosier basketballer -- is off to a terrific start this basketball season.

The baseball commit to Oregon almost earned a double-double of 28 points/eight rebounds in a win over Justin-Sienna of Napa.

Unbelievably, he followed that with a monster line of 30 points and 26 rebounds versus Mesa Verde.

The next game he 'slacked off' -- a 'feeble' 39 points and 17 boards.

'En fuego' is adequate in describing him thus far.

Robby Rowland makes the most of the opportunity

Robby Rowland plays for the Bay Area Hoosiers but is also quite the pitcher. He was recently featured in an ESPN article for his baseball exploits:

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Each year, Area Code offers more than 220 talented baseball players the opportunity to be evaluated by major league scouts.

The scouts who choose the final rosters for the eight Area Code teams evaluated more than 1,800 players. The Chicago White Sox, for example, saw 497 try out.

"What one group of eyes sees, is not what another sees," said one American League Area Scout. "That's what makes this industry so fun. There are many roads traveled to Long Beach."

Robby Rowland, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound right-handed pitcher from Cloverdale (Calif.), attended the Milwaukee Brewers tryout but did not get "the call" to inform him he made the team. But he did receive a call from Colorado Rockies area scout Gary Wilson who said that the Oakland Athletics team needed another arm. Rowland gladly jumped on board with the team representing the Southeastern states...
