SRJC beats SAC CC

Visiting Santa Rosa Junior College proved to be six points better than Sacramento City College last night, 79-73.

Sophomore sharpshooter Bobby (Cardinal Newman High) Sharp paced the Bear Cubs with 17 points while his frontcourt teammates Connor Gillett and Luke (Del Oro High) Cocheran posted identical 12/12 double-doubles.

Santa Rosa JC wins tourney

Santa Rosa Junior College took down a trio of opponents to win its own Kris Kringle Classic tournament. Joe Pasquini has the details here and here.

Over a three day period (Thursday, Friday, Saturday), it was the Bear Cubs first defeating Hartnell College 88-77, then winning 92-63 over Mendocino College and finally downing Yuba College 71-59 in the championship game.

Santa Rosa goes 2-1

In a tourney hosted by Fresno City College over the weekend, Santa Rosa Junior College ran roughshod over Lassen College 97-66 with sophomore backcourter Bobby (Cardinal Newman High) Sharp totaling 31 points for the Bear Cubs.

Also, Coach Craig McMillan's club topped Feather River 93-64 but lost 85-77 to FCC.

Kevin Aronis heading to Las Cruces

Western Athletic Conference member New Mexico State has secured the services of 6-foot-3 Kevin Aronis, a shooting guard out of Santa Rosa Junior College. He averaged 12.3 points per game as a sophomore, playing for Coach Craig McMillan. Aronis shot an amazing 40% on 247 three-points attempts this season.

Santa Rosa Junior College Coach Craig McMillan has another player headed to D-1, this time the Big Sky Conference. 6-foot-6 frontcourter Jordan Salley and Sacramento State are paired up in this Big Sky Basketball post.

As written about last week, Bear Cub backcourter Sama Taku is headed to Pacific

Sama Taku to Pacific

Santa Rosa Junior College guard Sama Taku is indeed going to become a Pacific Tiger when he signs a national letter-of-intent next week.

The 6-foot-1 sophomore earned First-Team All-State honors as well as being named the Most Valuable Player in the Big Eight Conference based on his 18 points per game and 47%, 39% and 84% shooting respectively. He went to the foul line 147 times this past season.

By a wide margin, he led the Bear Cubs in assists with 107 (versus 29 turnovers), in rebounds with 160 in 31 games and was second on the team in steals with 29.

Santa Rosa went 26-6 this season, finishing first with a 14-1 record in conference play.

Out of the Arizona prep ranks, Taku came to the Bear Cubs because his coach there thought he was overlooked and wanted to find a good fit for him. This according to Craig McMillan, the Santa Rosa head coach and former backcourter at Arizona.

McMillan described his player as "kind of a combo guard and a good one-on-one scorer."

McMillan also said Taku just turned 19 and is still physically developing.

Congratulation to Taku for his earning a paid education at the next level.

Yuba College 73, Santa Rosa Junior College 70

In a game in which neither team deserved to lose ...
