Pacific handles UCSB

Host Pacific was way too much for UC Santa Barbara, 80-62, led by 17 points from Tony (Cosumnes River College) Gill. For the Gauchos, T.J. (Oakland High) Taylor passed for nine assists.

Long Beach 77, Santa Barbara 70

Visiting Long Beach State proved to be seven points better than UC Santa Barbara 77-70 yesterday.

Sophomore TJ (Oakland High) Taylor, starting at the point for the Gauchos, totaled nine assists, eight points and three rebounds while freshman two guard Mike (Foothill High) Bryson posted a line of 15 points, four rebounds and a trio of assists.

Fullerton over Santa Barbara

Host Fullertion took down UC Santa Barbara 86-79 last night as Sammy Yeager busted out for 30 points (eight treys) and Kwame Vaughn was close behind with 27 (12-12 from the foul line).

Nate Garth went for nine points plus eight assists for the Gauchos while T.J. Taylor produced nine points and five assists.

It Santa Barbara by a trey

It was UC Santa Barbara 83-80 over host Santa Clara with Gauchos TJ Taylor being credited for six assists in 22 minutes of play and Nate Garth also passing for five assists. Bronco Niyi Harrison went for seven points plus 11 boards.

UCSB wins easily

Host UC Santa Barbara got back to normal with an 80-60 victory over The Master's College Saturday night.

Nate Garth produced 12 points plus seven assists with T.J. Taylor enjoying 10 points and three assists.

UCSB gets blasted

UC Santa Barbara traveled to the Land of Lincoln to face Illinois State last night and it wasn't pretty -- 100-72.

Nate (Capital Christian) Garth totaled nine points and three assists in 17 minutes as the starting point for the Gauchos with sophomore TJ (Oakland High) Taylor scoring 10 points (4-6 overall shooting, 2-2 from three-point range) in 18 minutes on the court.

John Green, Drew Dickey and TJ Taylor updates

Great interiview with UC Santa Barbara Coach Bob Williams, a native of Santa Cruz County but sad new about John Green being injured:

Unfortunately, John broke the 5^th metatarsal on his foot—the same injury he suffered last season. It’s primarily due to the impact and how he lands on his feet. We will try the most aggressive, state of the art solutions for him, to give him the best chance of playing again.  However, the last thing we want to do is have him re-injure his feet, and have a long-term problem down the road, a la Bill Walton or Sam Bowie, where basically things are all fused together. We’re looking out for John’s best long-term interests health-wise—as a person first.

GH:  What about Drew Dickey?  Why did you invite him to walk-on?

BW:  When a guy is 6’8”, can shoot, and displays good basketball knowledge, you take him.

GH:  I actually saw him play in the CCS playoffs, and he’s also an underrated passer. He found his open teammates on numerous occasions when double-teamed, and he also had some nice spin moves in the post. He’s also a good shooter out to the elbow. He’s got a high basketball IQ.

BW: Yes, we should be deep at the 1. We have two former starters returning at point guard in TJ Taylor and Nate Garth, so we should show vast improvement at that position. 

UCSB falls to UNLV

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays us from the swift completion of our appointed rounds, but the lack of electricity will. The juice is back, for now.

Despite 36 points and 10 rebounds from Orlando Johnson, UC Santa Barbara lost to UNLV 94-88 in double overtime. James Nunnally contributed 14 points, eight boards and four assists. Also noteworthy, freshman TJ Taylor played 29 minutes, chalking up 10 points and a trio of assists.
