There's an app for that thanks to Justin Labagh

Remember the Apple slogan "there's an app for that"?

Well, rather than bemoan what he saw as a void or throw up his hands and say "somebody should do something about that," City College of San Francisco Coach Justin Labagh went to work.

Even with all the technological advancements seemingly coming at us in warp speed, 'mobilizing' practice planning with the ability to take it to the athlete was absent.

It was a case of Labagh finding a niche and filling it.

"You can get drills on DVDs," he explained. "Why couldn't these be put on a mobile device instead of a DVD since the DVD isn't interactive?"

In a second example of what he saw was missing, Labagh offered, “we take notes at clinics, our friend’s practices or see a great drill on YouTube and either write it down in that most valuable notebook that we can’t afford to lose or bookmark the drill on our computer. What if there was one devise that could store it all in the same place and you could take it to the court or field?”

So after winning the state championship, Labagh began "talking to a ton of tech guys," pitching an idea.

An app was created.

"I then took it to Championship Productions [in Ames , Iowa] because they are famous for instructional DVDs." Labagh explained.

"They loved the idea and were trying to figure out how to get into the mobile devise age…so the timing was perfect. They let me choose from their huge library of drills, so I picked drills from top level coaches like Mike Krzyzewski, Bob Knight, Tom Izzo, Roy Williams and threw in some California guys like Frank Alloco and Vance Walberg and myself. The app comes with 25 drills and 2 plays to get started with. I built this so any level of coaches can use it."

He added, “On the right side of the screen you have your library where you keep you drills by category. On the left side you have your schedule. By simply choosing a drill and dragging it to the left side you start to build your practice."

Best of all, Labagh's product is universal for any sport whether it be basketball, soccer, volleyball -- you name it. He is working on the content for all other sports at the moment.
