"Erik Poulsen, a 6-11, 235 lb. center who played last season at Santa Rosa Junior College, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at the University of San Francisco.
Poulsen averaged 17.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and shot 53.9 percent from the field in 29 games for the Bear Cubs last season. He scored 20 or more points 11 times, including a pair of 26-point efforts against Citrus College on Dec. 17 and Diablo Valley on Jan. 10. Santa Rosa JC, coached by former Arizona standout Craig McMillan, finished the season with a 20-9 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the California Community College Athletic Association's Big 8 Conference.
"Erik fits our blueprint in what we envision for our basketball program," said USF head coach Kyle Smith. "He is a very skilled interior player who can stretch defenses, and he is not afraid to compete on the interior. We have known Erik since his senior year of high school and it has been wonderful to watch him mature and blossom as a player and person.
"More importantly, he is from the Bay Area! He is a team first guy with a great attitude and work ethic. His teammates will enjoy playing with him and he will attract others like him."
Poulsen graduated from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa in 2015 and then enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College, but did not play basketball during the 2015-16 season. He returned to the court last season and will have three years of eligibility remaining. Poulsen also attended Analy High School in Sebastopol for two years before transferring to Montgomery."
