A Darius Nelson update

Now Darius Nelson doesn't appear on the UTEP roster -- he was listed yesterday. Plus, someone has posted in response to our earlier entry that Darius left the Miner program.

At the Rivals UTEP site, a string is posted on the MB about his having departed.

This is the first post: "According to Phil Johnson [the top assistant] on the post game show, Nelson was upset that he didn't play on Friday and quit."

Cal-Hi Sports on Mr. Basketball

Born just two days apart, Sheldon (Sacramento, Calif.) duo Darius Nelson and Ramon Eaton have always felt more like brothers than cousins.

“Twin brothers,” Nelson, a 6-foot-5 scorer, clarifies.

It was a weekend of commitments

Sheldon (Sacramento) High teammates Darius Nelson and Ramon Eaton will be playing their final season together in 2010-2011 as Nelson just committed to UTEP and Eaton to Pepperdine. Bill Paterson has the details here.

31. Josiah Turner
Sacramento (CA) G 6-3/180       
Former Arizona State verbal commitment dropped in 27.9 points per game to go along with 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, helping Dragons to 26-7 record.

77. Darius Nelson
Sheldon (Sacramento, CA) W, F 6-6/225       
Defines "tweener" but has been incredibly productive at Sheldon since his freshman season, posting 24.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game as a junior.

It may be spring sports season but this is the hot an heavy time for high school basketball and football recruiting.

One of the biggest area stories is that of Remi Barry, the international student from France via Florida who was not allowed by the CIF to play basketball this past season at Del Oro High School...

Darius Nelson plays pretty well on one leg.

The 6-foot-6 junior, the younger brother of state scoring prep legend DeMarcus Nelson, put on a marvelous show in Sheldon's up-tempo matchup with Clovis East Saturday night in the Father Kelly Tribute at Jesuit High School.

Nelson poured in a career-high 44 points in leading Sheldon to a 92-86 overtime win over the Fresno-area power...
