“He’s from the storied De La Salle program, and that’s one of the things I like about both guys – they’re coached on a daily basis and winning matters in their school. De La Salle has an incredible program in the state of California and Elliott has been a central piece to their program the last few years.
“I don’t believe he’s getting enough credit right now for who he is as a player. Part of it is physically he’s a late developer. I believe he’s going to grow. He’s certainly going to be heavier when he gets here. The attributes that we love about him as a player is he’s a great passer, very skilled shooter and can play at more than one position. So when you think about us losing Mark Lyons, Kevin Parrom and Solomon Hill, I thought Elliott Pitts and Rondae Jefferson were the answer for us and we’re ecstatic to have both of them. They also are very good students, come from great families, and I think they’ll really buy into what we’re trying to do here at Arizona which is do something that’s bigger than yourself. Be a part of a program and a team that believes in itself.”

An Elliott Pitts tidbit
Jeff Borzello answering an email query in his latest column:
@dh211 – Did you discuss Elliott Pitts as a top 100?
Pitts was mentioned toward the latter stages of the rankings, but he wasn't one of the final few left out of the top 100. With that said, I think he improved his stock in a major way over the spring and summer, and Arizona got a player who can make shots and stay under control.

Praise for Pitts
Matt Moreno caught DLS and Bay Area Hoosier star Elliott Pitts in action:
This was our first chance to see the Concord (Calif.) De La Salle prospect since the Pangos All-American Camp earlier in the year. Obviously seeing him play in a camp setting is going to be different than seeing him play with his travel team - the Bay Area Hoosiers. UA was front and center to see the Northern California standout and he did a lot of good things for his squad.
Pitts does a lot of things well, some make it in the box score and others don't. The 6-foot-5 prospect would fit into many different programs because he is a versatile player. He can play the point guard position - which he has done in the past - or he can play off the ball, which is what he did for most of Thursday night's game.
One thing that definitely stood out about Pitts on the first evening of action was his commitment on the defensive end of the floor. Even though he picked up a couple fouls for being a little over-anxious, he was still competing hard on the defense to make sure his man didn't score.
Handling the ball and knocking down deep jump shots is what he's going to be known for, but he really showed something on defense Thursday night.

An Elliot Pitts evaluation
From Branch West's Bob Gottlieb (patriarch of the Gottlieb basketball family) who utilized Elliot Pitts in a southern California tourney while Pitts was visiting UCLA:
"Elliot Pitts 6'5" wing from Concord De LaSalle H.S. in Northern California was a welcome addition. Highly athletic, he showed himself to be a stopper defensively. Did a particularly nice job on highly regarded Roshon Prince 6'5" hi major 2013 from Long Beach Poly. Elliot is a slasher who can shoot. Has great speed and jumps exceptionally well. Both mom who is 6'1" and dad who is 6'4", played basketball at Northwood College in Michigan (D2) and I would not be surprised to see him grow a few more inches. if he does, the sky is the limit. Already has several Pac 12 offers, and took an unofficial visit to UCLA with his parents, while he was down here"
