Allen talks about Harvard

Here's the background on Noah Allen's decision to not go forward with Harvard.

Wow. That's not even low-balling, it's saying 'come here if you want but you're on your own.'

Allen back on the market

Josh Gershon leads with the details on Noah Allen's declaration of free agency.

Question: did Harvard lowball on the financial assistance offer?

So who gets back involved? Cal now has Bird.  The schools mentioned in earlier Allen recruiting posts were  San Diego State, St. Mary's, Colorado, Utah and Washington State plus some other Ivies.

The Aztecs have a Dakarai Allen commit, with D'Erryl Williams a possibility as well as Darin Johnson. But the latter recently named Oregon as a leader and Washington is pushing hard.

St. Mary's has 6-foot-4 shooting guard Cullen Neal and 6-foot-5 wing Josh Hermanson committed but it's primary backcourters are all upperclassmen.

Colorado just got a commit from a 6-foot-5 wing and a 6-foot-5 SoCal shooting guard so the Buffs look a little crowded.

Utah seems a real longshot. Washington State -- who knows? Maybe having Ikenna Iroegbu at the point would generate some Allen interest in the Palouse.

Pope and Allen per Joel Francisco

Here's Joel Francisco with a pair of NorCal players he observed this past weekend in Las Vegas:
Malik Pope (Sacramento, Calif./Burbank)
2014, WF, 6-7, 180 pounds

The sinewy wing-type has blossoming perimeter skills, excellent quickness and magnetic hands. He rebounds well in his area and can lead the break due to his nifty handle and astute court vision. He handed out a number of high-level passes and he can knock down the 3-point shot. He is conservatively one of the top five prospects out west for the Class of 2014

Noah Allen (Salinas, Calif./Palma)
2013, WF, 6-6, 195 pounds

Allen is a relative unknown on the West Coast, however, if he continues to play with this sense of urgency his popularity amongst coaches and scouts will escalate considerably. The smooth wing-type has a lengthy frame with very long arms and he can score in a variety of ways. He gets great lift on his pull-up jump shot and can slash his way to the rim as well. However, the most significant change in his game may have been his sense of urgency (50-50 balls, rebounding, etc.) he exhibited at both ends of the floor.
