The Hurleys and Jonathan Williams

So Coach Danny Hurley is leaving Wagner for Rhode Island and Bobby Hurley may follow his brother or could be named as the new head coach for Wagner.

The reason this is being mentioned is that former CCSF star Jonathan Williams went to Wagner because of his connections to the Hurleys.

Williams averaged 13.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in 24 minutes a game in his first season, shooting 53% overall. Will he also move to URI or finish at Wagner?

Jonathan Williams going strong

Wagner (Staten Island) is 19-4, 10-2 this season and one primary reason for this dramatic turnaround is the addition of former CCSF star Jonathan Williams.

Williams is averaging 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds this season (both figures place him second on the team) and he's shooting 50% overall.

Press for Julian Welch and Jonathan Williams

Brad Winton has an article on the SLAM site about junior college transfers making a mark this season. Two have northern California connections:
Julian Welch | Minnesota | 6-3/G

Welch made an immediate impact for the Gophers this season after transferring in from Yuba CC in California. Welch spent his freshman year at UC Davis and was named Big West Freshman of the Year. At Minnesota he is scoring 10 points per game in 23 minutes per night. He is shooting the ball well from the field as well (2FG%: 51, 3FG%: 42.5, FT%: 88). The Golden Gophers are off to a 12-1 start this season, but the true test will be when they enter Big 10 play. Last season they started off 11-1 and finished the season 17-4.

Jonathon Williams | Wagner | 6-6/SG/SF

Williams spent last season at City College of San Francisco and was named conference MVP, First Team All-State and helped guide CCSF to the California JC State Championship. Williams went nearly 3,000 miles to finish his academic and athletic career at Wagner. I’m sure there are many schools in between San Francisco and Staten Island that would love to have Williams now. Wagner is off to a 7-3 start under Danny Hurley and Williams is their leading scorer (13.9 ppg) and second leading rebounder (4.8 rpg). Williams is putting up these numbers in 24 minutes of action per night.

A Jonathan Williams update

Former CCSF star Jonathan Williams has one game under his belt for Wagner -- seven points/three rebounds/14 minutes in a win over Princeton, he started but foul trouble limited his court time.

Wagner plays Connecticut next.

Jonathan Williams noted

Jon Rothstein recently tweeted:
"Love Wagner two skilled 4's - Orlando Parker + Jon Williams. Williams is a lefty point forward type - will play some face up 4"
That's Jonathan Williams out of City College of San Francisco and Kennedy High in Richmond.

Wagner (Jonathan Williams) playing next season in the Bay Area

From the Rush The Court folks: "Wagner head coach Danny Hurley is getting his teams exposed to the highest level and toughened up for league play. His Wagner club will visit 2011 NCAA Tournament representatives Princeton, UConn and Pittsburgh on the road. The Seahawks will also travel to the Cable Car Classic out west in December. Wagner opens that tournament with Air Force before facing Santa Clara or Eastern Michigan in the next round."

Thsi translates into former Kennedy High and CCSF star Jonathan Williams returning home for at least a couple of games in the upcoming season.
