Remember Justin Standley?

After graduating from McClymonds High, backcourter Justin Standley headed to New Mexico State but then decided he needed practice and playing time so he transferred to Western Nebraska. He redshirted last season but is the starting point in 2010-2011.

In eight games this far this season, the freshman is averaging 11.2 points a game on 37% overall, 38% from three and 78% at the foul line shooting. He is passing for 3.5 assists and nabbing 3.8 rebounds a contest.

He scored 24 points in a recent close loss to national power College of Southern Idaho.

Standley is listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds.

Justin Standley, Damon Powell

We see that Justin Standley still appears on the Western Nebraska College roster but Damon Powell is not showing.

Standley moved from New Mexico State to WNC last December/January and a local basketball coach told us during the summer the last he heard was that Powell would be there too.

Let's hope Powell turns up locally and finally gets it going athletically and academically.

Justin Standley at Western Nebraska

Former McClymonds backcourter Justin Standley started out this school year at New Mexico State as a walk-on with the basketball team.

Now he has transferred to Western Nebraska Community College and is redshirting. The WNCC coach is Russ Beck who previously assisted at Dixie State College, Salt Lake Community College, and the College of Southern Idaho.

Justin Standley to New Mexico State

We aren't related to Justin Standley nor has he graced our wallets with greenbacks -- we offer this from the heart: it's is wonderful news to hear that he is heading to New Mexico State on a basketball scholarship.

Some may say that high school transfers are one of the seven signs of the apocalypse and the bane of basketball but consider how it worked for Standley.

Obviously, no one knows if he would have received the New Mexico State offer had he played and finished out high school at Amador Valley but having just one season of of varsity basketball experience (exposure) under his belt (due to injury) sure makes the move to McClymonds (a team that attracted many recruiters to a large number of games) appear to be quite the wise one.

But ultimately, it is who he is and what he did on and off the court that cinched landing a scholarship.

Everyone should be happy when good triumphs and it certainly did in this instance.
