UTEP easily handled Houston Baptist last night 72-44 and McKenzie Moore did his thing again as a starter: eight points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots.

UTEP topped Tulane 66-57 last night with McKenzie Moore in the Miner starting lineup and adding nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots in 24 minutes of court time.

So how is former College Park High and CCSF talent McKenzie Moore doing at UTEP? NCAA rules required him to sit out the first semester so he's participated in five games (one start/15.8 minutes an outing) thus far with a 5.6 points per game average on 44%, 43% and 92% shooting respectively. He is also grabbing 2.6 rebounds a contest.

In UTEP's latest game, the Miners took down Nebraska 68-52 with McKenzie Moore contributing four points and five rebounds in 15 minutes of court time.

Shaking off some of the rust, McKenzie Moore contributed nine points, five rebounds, a trio of assists and a pair of steals in host UTEP's 83-61 victory over Arkansas Little Rock.

[Mckenzie] Moore, a 6-6 combo guard, enrolled at UTEP for the spring semester. He initially verbally committed to Saint Mary's before re-opening his recruiting following a standout prep campaign at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, Calif. Because he joined the team at mid-year, Moore wouldn't be eligible to play for the Miners until the second semester this coming season.

"He reminds me a lot of Daniel Hackett, who we had at USC," Floyd said. "He can play the point, and in saying that, we still love Jacques Streeter. But what we have done is added several ball-handling bigger guards who all have the ability to make plays in the open floor. We can outlet to several guys and not just one. We think that makes it very difficult on teams in transition. We want to be a better offensive transition team next year.

"McKenzie has the ability to shoot it, and he has the ability to get the ball in the lane. He is a pass-first guard who has great length and should be a great defender in addition to being a guy who is going to make other players better. We would love for him to continue to develop a post game so we can take advantage of him against smaller guards in matchup situations. That's something he'll work on in the offseason."

Former College Park High and Team 94 star Mckenzie Moore has enrolled at City College of San Francisco.

Of course, that means he'll be playing for Coach Justin Labagh and be a member of the defending California state championship team.

De'End Parker, Jonathan Williams, Collin Chiverton, Fred Sturdivant, et al have moved on but backcourter Ivan Dorsey returns and San Marin frontcourter Stuart Wesonga has also moved in -- Labagh reloads, rebuilding is not in the equation.

He was the anchor for a scrappy Team 94 bunch with his control of the game. Moore was the primary ball-handler, the best passer, a good scorer in the clutch and a tough defender in the backcourt. A one-time Saint Mary’s commitment, Moore is hoping to get a qualifying score on the SAT to enroll in the fall at a college. If he doesn’t get the score he needs, it is prep school. If he goes the prep school route, don’t be surprised to see his name all over the place in the fall.
