Analy will be back in the mix thanks to Sorenson and Halaweh

A pair of Analy High backcourters -- Josiah Sorenson and Mohanned Halaweh -- have particularly stepped up their games over the summer so look for the Tigers to again be right in the midst of battle for superiority in the Sonoma County League and beyond.

The 2011-12 Analy season ended with a highlight game of the high school year, a 98-87 double-time loss to Miramonte in which Halaweh, a First Team All-League selection, went for 31 points. The Tigers finished 20-10 overall, 11-1 in league play.

Big Nathan Molony-Benjamin has continued on to Sonoma State plus point and Defensive Player of the year Jalen Gilbert also moved on to Santa Rosa Junior College but Coach Brett Page will have Sorenson at 6-feet, the 6-foot-2 Halaweh and others at his disposal.

Here's Analy Assistant Coach Jason Page on Sorenson: "Josiah's a scoring point who played really well over the summer. We played De La Salle twice and lost by three in both games but Josiah scored over 20 points each time. He's played off the ball because our best two players have been points the past two years but he's in charge this season."

Here Page on Halaweh: "Mohanned is a scorer, mostly a three-point shooter who averaged 15 points a game as a junior. He's getting more athletic and got his first dunks in games this summer. He also had 20-something in the games against De La Salle."

It's always enjoyable to see players step forward when it's their time to shine and Sorenson and Halaweh are doing just that in their respective final seasons.

  1. You add in the 6'6" senior defensive specialist Geddy Dukes who's holds the school dunking record and has been dunking since the seventh grade, and Greenburg-Pines another senior we call "The Driving Machine." and a 6'10' "Beast Underneath" With a supporting cast that would start on most teams. Quite the force!
