On Thursday in Redding, Simpson University turned away UC Merced 78-72 led by 34 points and 15 rebounds from Josh (Tracy High) Brakee. He shot 14-21, 1-1 and 5-5 respectively.
Freshman guard Cole (Kennedy High) Taira's 15 points paced the Bobcats.
