The 2012-13 DeAnza Dons

It's early but DeAnza College Coach Jason Domjanovic has released the as-of-now roster for the Dons.

There's a handful of returnees alongside a bevy of newcomerswith 13 high school qualifiers, a total unheard of in the community college ranks.

First, the sophomores (descriptions provided by Coach Damjanovic):

* Rich Azure, 5-foot-6 (Lincoln High, transfer from Cañada College)

"A transfer from Cañada, he is tough, can shoot the heck out of the ball and plays with a chip on his shoulder"

* Denzel Copeland, SO, 5-foot-10 point (Santa Teresa High)

"Our poster player, he will lead us" - Copeland averaged 10.9 points and chalked up 65 assists last season, second and first on the team respectively which earned him All-Conference honors

* Stefan Demirovic, 6-foot-4 post (Serbia)

"A wide body, he's been very impressive"

* Jimmy Escudero, 6-foot-1 shooting guard (Modesto Christian High)

"A lefty, he lived the life of a shooter for us last season"

Cabrillo rolls over DeAnza

The Cabrillo College Seahawks ran their winning streak to 12 straight with an impressive 75-53 win over DeAnza College (Cupertino) in Aptos. The win clinches another outright Coast Conference South Championship for the Seahawks.

Cabrillo (20-3, 10-0) jumped all over the Dons (13-11, 5-5) behind the play of Thomas Pierce and his 12 first half points and Tyler Velasquez connecting on 3 three-point baskets. The Seahawks took a 41-24 lead into the locker room at the half.

The second was no different as Cabrillo extended their lead to as many as 30 points midway through as the Seahawks cruised to victory.

Thomas Pierce lead all scorers tonight with 16 points. Tyler Velasquez had 15 and Frank Rogers scored 14.

The win earns Cabrillo their fourth Coast Conference South Championship in last six years. Twice back to back (2006-07, 2007-2008 and 2010-2011, 2011-2012.
