The 2012-13 Yuba College roster

It's going to be an interesting year for Coach Doug Cornelius as the vast majority of his roster has moved on and the need to gain experience will be foremost for the 2012-13 49ers in order to be up there as usual at the end.

Romero heads south

Yuba College sophomore Anthony Romero has cast his lot with California Baptist University (CBU). The 6-foot-1 backcourter averaged 14.5 points per game last season for Coach Doug Cornelius, shooting 57%, 48% and 82% respectively. He also passed for 91 assists while nabbing 46 steals. Yuba won the Bay Valley Conference during both years Romero played with the 49ers.

He scored 31 points against Mt. San Antonio was a season high.

Romero came to the 49ers after playing at Rocklin High.

CBU plays in the Pacific West Conference and finished 16-10 overall, 10-8 in league action in 2011-12. The PacWest has four members in Hawaii, three NorCal locations in Academy of Art University, Notre Dame de Namur and Dominican University plus one in Arizona and another in Utah.

Caleb Johnson to the Show Me state

Yuba College frontcourter Caleb Johnson has selected his next college destination -- the University of Missouri Kansas City, a member of The Summit League.

The 6-foot-9 former El Camino High (Sacramento) talent averaged 4.9 points per game last season, shooting 59% from the floor and 75% on his free throw attempts.

His 15 points against Chabot College was his season high and he posted a 10/10 double-double for the 49ers versus College of Alameda.

UMKC's conference opponents are Oral Roberts, South Dakota State, Oakland, Western Illinois, North Dakota State, Southern Utah, IUPUI, Nebraska Omaha and Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW).

Another Yuba College basketball signing

This was tucked in at the bottom of Jimmy Graben's article on Spencer Butterfield's signing with Utah State: "Yuba sophomore Anto Olah signed a letter of intent to play for Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. Olah earned a full-ride scholarship to play for the NCAA Division II program, which competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference."

Olah is a native of Australia.
