Whitworth’s Roach named student-athlete of the week

"Whitworth University’s Kyle Roach, a former standout at Marin Academy, was named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Roach, from Marinwood, led the Pirates of Spokane, Wash., to victories in the Quality Inn Whitt Classic against Texas Lutheran and Schreiner. In the former, the sophomore recorded a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds. Against Schreiner, Roach poured in 20 points and seven boards. He shot a combined 61 percent from the field, 60 percent from 3-point range and went a perfect 11 of 11 from the free-throw line.

Roach averaged a league-record 35.8 points and 9.8 rebounds a game as a senior with Marin Academy in 2014-15, converting 62 percent of his field goals en route to earning Bay Counties League West MVP honors."
