At 6-foot-9 and 215 pounds San Jose City College's Jonah (Willow Glen High) Underwood put up these nightly numbers last season: 5.3 points, 45% and 80% shooting, 4.7 rebounds, 0.6 blocks. At times, he was on the floor with fellow big Akil Douglas who has since moved on to Santa Clara.
But in 2016-17, Underwood's production and effectiveness has exploded. Try 19.3 points per game on 49% and 77% shooting plus 10.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots an outing.
Granted, the absence of Douglas has created greater opportunity but give Underwood credit for making more baskets, grabbing more rebounds and blocking more shots as well as getting himself ready and prepared to do so.
