The Cabrillo College Seahawks opened Coast Conference South play tonight with a 59-49 win over Hartnell College.
Cabrillo (now 11-3, 1-0) jumped on the Panthers (now 6-8, 0-1) early holding them without a basket untill the 14-minute mark and found themselves up 22-8 with 8 minutes to go.
But Hartnell wasn't done because the Seahawks had their own struggles shooting the ball.
It was 31-23 at the half.
In the second 20 minutes, Cabrillo could not pull away. Hartnell cut the lead to 3 -- 43-40 -- with 3:23 to go but could get no closer.
Aaron Short led the Seahawks in scoring with 21 points. Thomas Pierce totlaed 12 and Frank Rogers contributed 11.
