California state stat stars

Here are the northern California names on Cal-Hi Sports' latest listing of statistical achievements:

* David Ahern (Marin Catholic, Kentfield)

The Wildcats’ senior had a solid season last year but he’s exploded onto the scene after last week’s performance in leading his host team to the 16th Annual Don Bambauer Memorial Classic title. The 6-foot, 175-pound guard had 31 points in an opening-round 88-69 victory over Napa. He followed that up with 30 points in an 88-75 victory over Walnut Creek Berean Christian. In the semifinals, Ahern scored 24 points with three assists in a 56-48 win against Orinda Miramonte. He rounded out his tournament MVP performance with 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in a championship-game 57-46 victory over Temecula Valley of Temecula.

* Aaric Armstead (Bullard, Fresno)

The 6-foot-5 swing player from Bullard scored a personal high  of 35 points to lead his team to fifth-place in the Redondo Seahawk Classic in a 69-56 win over Narbonne of Harbor City. We don’t know if Aaric is related to Aric Armstead, the 6-foot-5, 275-pound offensive lineman All-American from Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove who also is an outstanding hoopster.

* Michael Bryson (Foothill, Sacramento)

Scoring 34 points, this UC Santa Barbara-bound standout led the way in a 58-45 win over Del Campo of Fair Oaks.

* Shaquille Cornelius (Laguna Creek, Elk Grove)

His last name isn't O'Neal, but he was hard for Whitney of Rocklin to stop as he scored 35 points in a 71-59 win in the third-place game at the Whitney tournament.

* Skyler Geerts (Winters)

It was a season-best performance for Geerts in scoring and rebounding as he scored 37 points and grabbed 17 in a 72-63 win over American Canyon that snapped Winters’ seven-game losing streak.

* Taylor Meeker (Willow Glen, San Jose)

Meeker was a seeker of points in a matchup last week against Leigh San Jose and ended with 31. Willow Glen couldn’t get the win, though, as Leigh prevailed 62-55.

* Trevor Peterson (Leigh, San Jose)

Last week in the St. Francis of Mountain View Holiday Tournament, Peterson had 20 points, five rebounds and five steals in a 70-49 loss to Antioch Deer Valley and 21 points in a 53-51 win over San Ramon Valley of Danville. This week, back on the home court, the 6-foot-4 senior had 31 points (seven 3-pointers), four steals and two assists in a 62-55 win over crosstown Willow Glen.

* Kiran Shastri (Miramonte, Orinda)

Shastri makes another appearance in the stat stars honor roll after banging home 31 points in a Don Bambauer Classic 73-58 victory over Lincoln of San Francisco.
