Connor Haysbert honored

From Dave Albee, Associate Director of Public Relations at Dominican University, comes word of an honor for Connor Haysbert:

Supported by a career-high 21 point effort at Grand Canyon University last Wednesday, Dominican University of California sophomore Connor Haysbert has been named to the Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll this week.

The league office announced the list today from its media office in Phoenix.  The weekly honor is for games contested from Jan. 9-15.

Haysbert, a Biological Sciences major out of Center High School in Sacramento, scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the first half at Grand Canyon on 7-of-10 shooting. He connected on 8-of-11 shots from the floor in the game and also grabbed five rebounds, tying his career-high.

Two nights later, Haysbert tallied six of his nine points in the first half at Dixie State College in Utah.

For the week, Haysbert made 11 of 18 shots (61.1 percent) while averaging 15 points a game. In his last four games – all starts – the 6-foot-8, 240-pound sophomore power has shot .529 percent (18-of-34) and averaged 12.3 points a game. He has moved up to seventh in the PacWest Conference in field goal percentage (.515, 51-of-99), one spot behind Penguins’ teammate Jacob Noisat.

Haysbert, who was the Most Valuable Player in the Capital Valley League as a senior in high school and named “Newcomer of the Year” as a freshman at Dominican, will lead the Penguins against Chaminade on Thursday in the Conlan Center. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
