This week's Cal-Hi Sports Boys State Stat Stars

Here are the northern California names on the Cal-Hi Sports Boys State Stat Stars of the week:

* Jordan Franklin (Trinity Prep, Napa)

It would be wise for opponents to learn the name of this talented sophomore as he scored 34 points for the second game in a row earlier this week in a 52-34 win over Freedom Christian.

* Ricky Garcia (Rancho Cotate, Rohnert Park)

The Cougars’ quarterback does just as well on the hardwood as the gridiron. In his last three games he’s gone up the ladder. The 6-foot-4 senior had 21 points in a 71-48 win over Ukiah, 23 points in a 71-52 loss to Piner of Santa Rosa and 31 points in a 68-45 win against Santa Rosa Elsie Allen.

* Olajuwon Garner (Deer Valley, Antioch)

He started last week with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists in an 86-64 win over Pittsburg. The senior guard finished the week with 32 points in a 92-58 win against Brentwood Heritage. He has had a good start this week as well, dropping in 20 points with five steals, as the Wolverines poured it on in a 101-65 win over arch rival Antioch.

* Aaron Gordon (Archbishop Mitty, San Jose)

It was just another day at the office for one of the leading candidates for Mr. Basketball State Player of the Year. In a 60-42 statement-game win over WCAL rival Serra of San Mateo, the 6-foot-8 junior star finished with 28 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks.

* Matt Hayes (Yuba City)

This Honkers guard went bonkers as he scored 30 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a 70-58 win over Natomas of Sacramento before recording a triple-double with 30 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a 69-54 win over Inderkum of Sacramento.

* Cole Lockwood (Santa Clara)

The sophomore guard poured in a career-high 31 points (six 3-pointers) in a 64-45 win over Sunnyvale Fremont.

* Josh Mooney (Monte Vista Christian, Watsonville)

Mooney had Seaside seeing stars, especially after an NBA-length 3-pointer pretty much sealed the deal in a 70-64 overtime victory. The junior guard finished with 33 points. Mooney shined later in the week as well, recording a double-double 19 points and 11 assists in a 70-32 win over North Monterey County of Castroville.

* Brandon Nall (Branham, San Jose)

Nall certainly knew what to do when he had the ball in his hands last week. In three big wins, the senior guard had 23 points against cross-town Overfelt, 22 points versus San Jose Evergreen Valley, and 32 points with six rebounds, four assists and four steals against San Jose Gunderson.

* Gokul Nateson (Cupertino)

Check the site tomorrow for more on this amazing young man. Last week, in a 54-47 win over De Anza League rival Palo Alto, the long-bomber hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 32 points.

* Trevor Priest (Santa Teresa, San Jose)

The 6-foot-6 senior makes it two straight weeks as a stat star after matching his season-high 32 points but this time his team took a 78-66 win over crosstown Willow Glen. Priest also feasted on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds and blocking four shots.

* Chris Schwartz-Edmisten (Sacramento Waldorf, Fair Oaks)

Reportedly the leading scorer in the state, averaging 34.6 points a game, he scored 43 points in a 62-37 win over Foresthill earlier this week after scoring 34 points last week in a 60-45 win over Woodland Christian.

* Kiran Shastri (Miramonte, Orinda)

Finished his week going for 30 points or more for the third time this season after scoring 34 points in a 73-63 win over Martinez Alhambra. The 6-foot-5 junior started last week with a double-double 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 61-51 win against Dublin.

* Leo Smith (Oakland Tech, Oakland)

The Bulldogs’ senior guard had 32 points, nine steals and four assists in a 72-65 overtime win against Oakland High.
