Host Chico State and Cal State San Marcos went at it Saturday until the former emerged with an 83-82 win. All it took was a half court shot at the end by Jalen McFaren.
For the Wildcats, four northern Californians scored in double figures: Robert Duncan 17 points, McFarren 15, Isaiah Ellis 13 and Tanner Giddings 10 plus 10 rebounds. Duncan added seven boards, five assists and four steals to his stat line.
What aided the closeness of the contest was Chico going 14-29 at the foul line.
