Danny Schmidt/The Marin Independent Journal has named Skylar Chavez as his Prep of the Week:
"What he did: Chavez continued his hot start to the season, scoring 31 of the Pirates’ 57 points in a 57-55 win over Foothill in the Red Brown tournament championship on Saturday, a week after being named MVP of a tournament in Ukiah, which the Pirates won. The senior, who led Drake throughout the tournament, hauled in 11 rebounds against Foothill.
What he said: “It was awesome, and we got the three-peat. Whenever you have a home tournament, it’s always good to win it. We’ve been on a roll lately. We play a really fast-paced game and it’s been working to our benefit since we’re a small team. We play with a lot of intensity, and that really works in our favor.”
“His effort in practice, in the locker room has been tremendous. He’s one of those senior captains every team needs. He’s doing everything and then some.”
