From The Santa Cruz Sentinel: "The UC Santa Cruz men’s basketball team escaped with a thrilling 66-65 victory over host Linfield on Sunday.
Jared Ponce made a steal and a layup with 40 seconds left to pull the Slugs within a point of Linfield. Then Sam Gabbard pulled down a key rebound of a missed Wildcats layup and got it to Adam Marlow, whose layup with 4 seconds remaining gave UCSC the win. It was just the Slugs’ second victory of the season.
Marlow and Gabbard each finished with 11 points, and Gabbard and Andrew Jones led the team in rebounds with six apiece. Will Crain scored a team-high 12 points, Ponce added nine, Jones scored six and Aptos alum Ben Dorfman came off the bench to collect six for UCSC (2-8), which shot 50 percent (26 of 52) from the field..."
Gabbard is out of Vacaville High and Marlow graduated from Sonora High. Both are sophomores. Crain is a freshman from Casa Grande High.
