Just noticed this today: former Bay Area Hoosier
Robert Sandoval, out of the Fresno area and now at Azu
sa Pacific University, is sitting out this season. Under his bio is this:
Junior point guard Robert Sandoval plans to redshirt the season and
will return to the court in 2013-14 with two full seasons of eligibility
remaining ... Intends to use the extra year in school to pursue a
master's degree after he completes his undergraduate business program
... Will be a central figure in making the offense continue to run
smoothly when he returns ... Can hold his own defensively at his
position ... Understands what it takes to make the game easy for those
around him ... Displays a willingness to attack the basket but can also
hurt a defense with reliable perimeter shooting.
Here is his writeup after his sophomore season:
Was one of three players who started all 32 games of a 24-8 campaign for
the Cougars ... Named to the All-GSAC team, one of just two
underclassmen to receive the honor, after leading the conference in
assists during conference play (4.7 per game) ... Ranked fifth in the
league in assist-to-turnover ratio over the course of the 18-game
conference schedule ... Was one of seven players on a balanced scoring
team who averaged at least eight points per game (8.4) ... Had a season
total of 131 assists (4.1 average), which ranked 34th nationally in the
NAIA ... Was third on the team with 34 steals ... Scored a season-high
21 points in the third game of the season, making five-of-six
three-pointers against St. Thomas (Fla.) ... Notched his first career
double-double with 16 points and 10 assists to lead Azusa Pacific to a
conference win over The Master's ... Made eight-of-13 from the field to
score a team-high 17 points in a season-ending loss in the conference
tournament semifinals against Concordia, which went on to win the NAIA
national championship.
