...Marin Catholic notched a tremendous statement victory in Monday's semifinals of the Mission Prep Christmas Classic in San Luis Obispo, pulling off a 61-60 upset of defending Division IV state champion Bishop Montgomery of Torrance — the third-ranked team in California by MaxPreps.com, and 13th in the state.
MC (4-3) finished as runner-up after losing to JW North 57-39 in the final, without forward Frankie Calcaterra.
Calcaterra was a driving force behind the big upset win the semis, which saw the Wildcats outscore Bishop 24-16 in the final period.
Playing in his first tournament after missing a month with an ankle injury, he led the Wildcats with 20 points and seven rebounds, making a basket to put MC up four late. Joey Calcaterra had 14 points and four rebounds, and Charlie Duysen had a double-double: 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals...
