UCSB wins easily

Host UC Santa Barbara got back to normal with an 80-60 victory over The Master's College Saturday night.

Nate Garth produced 12 points plus seven assists with T.J. Taylor enjoying 10 points and three assists.

Cabrillo six better than Merritt

In the opening round of the Shasta College tournament, Cabriilo College topped Merritt College 64-58. Colin (Aptos High) Gruber paced the Seahawks with 28 points.

Fresno five better than Pacific

Fresno State got by visiting Pacific 66-61 in a game that was tied at half time.

Tyler (St. Francis High) Johnson scored 10 points and grabbed a trio of rebounds for the Bulldogs while teammate Jerry (Sacred Heart Cathedral) Brown posted eight points, three blocks and a pair of assists.

Sac State tops Utah on the road

Sacramento State went into Salt Lake City and nabbed a 74-71 victory over the Pac-12 dwelling Utes. Four Hornets were again in double figures: Dylan Garrity with 19 points plus five assists, John Dickson enjoyed 16, Mikh McKinney totaled 13 and Joe Eberhard had 10 points.

On beating a Pac-12 team to get their third win

"[Utah] is a good team. We approach every game the same. Our goals are real simple, we have three goals: One, we want to get better every day. Two, we want to win the next game on the schedule. Three, we want to have more fun than any team in the country. I tell my guys that we're not going to have fun if we don't do number one and number two." 

On the second half rally

"We have five seniors that really have a lot of resolve and that are really committed to each other. They've been through a lot. Last year we made a little rally at the end of the year and won five in a row. Our seniors just made a pact that we are going to win this year. I think our kids have just worked too hard to give up." 

On importance of having a variety of players step up

"In the past we had trouble scoring, we only had one or two that could score. I feel like we have probably a legitimate six guys that can really score. It's harder to guard when you've got to guard five guys at once."

Kurtz performing well

Mike (UC Davis/Woodcreek High) Kurtz scored 21 points and nabbed five rebounds in Biola's 85-78 loss to Cal State San Marcos on October 14.

Ohlone wins again

In the Shasta College tournament, Ohlone College proved two better than American River College, 82-80 last night. Chris (Castro Valley High) Read paced Coach John Peterson's squad with 21 points, Jarrad Jackson totaled 15 plus Casey (Newark Memorial High) Norris contributed 14.

Goins leads CSSB in scoring

Brian (Diablo Valley College) Goins poured in 29 points (10-20, 3-6, 6-6 shooting) and added five rebounds but it wasn't enough as Cal State San Bernardino fell 97-90 to Westmont on Tuesday evening.

After 55 minutes, it's Dominican

San Francisco State University and Dominican University mixed it up in Marin County yesterday evening with the latter emerging victorious 115-110 after three overtimes.

Connor (Center High) Haysbert produced a 20/12 double-double for Dominican, with Jacob (Elsie Allen High) Noisat close behind at 16/9

For the Gators, Decensae (Serra High) White led with 24 points while Robbie (St. Patrick-St. Vincent) Herndon contributed 21 and Calvin (Sheldon High) Otonio totaled 19.

Manley leads Kent State to victory

Kent State blasted Chicago State 92-63 last night as sophomore Devareaux (Castlemont High) Manley led the Golden Flashes with 20 points. In 15 minutes of court time, Manley shot 7-10 overall, 6-8 from long distance.

Harris help Concordia to victory

Concordia topped Bethesda 92-61 at home last night with former Valley Christian star Tim Harris totaling 15 points.

Sonoma State falls

Minnesota State took down Sonoma State University 75-68 on Friday night. Patrick (Bear River High) Scott was en fuego with 28 points (11-14 overall, 3-5 from long distance, 2-2 at the foul line) in the losing cause

Fullerton falls short

Cal State Fullerton and host Nevada played a close one last night with the Reno-ites winning 80-77.

Kwame (Skyline High) Vaughn led the Titans with 20 points while Sammy (Modesto High) Yeager added 19 points plus seven boards.

DJ (Modesto Christian High) Seeley contributed 13 points and six assists. With an extended period of court time (26 minutes), Alex (El Cerrito High) Harris produced 12 points and four rebounds.

Oregon shellacks Vandy

Oregon demolished visiting Vanderbilt 70-48 last night with Dom Artis' line being four points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals in 23 minutes as a freshman starter.

Catching up with Cabrillo College and Colin Gruber

Catch up on Cabrillo Hoops...

Soph Colin Gruber paced the Seahawks with 30 points in a 65-62 loss to Sacramento State in a tournament sponsored this past weekend by Ohlone College.

That was followed by a 57-50 victory over San Joaquin Delta in the same tourney. The 6-foot-5 Gruber again led with 14 points.
