Jalen Headspeth to Cal State Monterey Bay

Hot sure if we posted this earlier -- it's dated from late May:
Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball coach Rob Bishop has announced the signing of Oakland High School's Jalen Headspeth.

“Jalen is a point guard with great vision and court awareness,” Bishop said. “He has played on teams with very good players throughout his high school career and has done an outstanding job of distributing the basketball. Oakland High School has put out a number of very good college basketball players over the years and Jalen will be no exception.“

Headspeth, a 5'11 point guard led his team to an Oakland Athletic League (OAL) Championship in his senior season ending with a 19-4 record. He led the team to three CIF Quarterfinals. Headspeth was named All-OAL honorable mention as a junior and senior.

This past season at Oakland High School, Headspeth averaged 6.7 points and 1.3 assists a game.

“Not only will he help improve our transition game next season, but Jalen is a much better scorer than his numbers in high school suggest,” Bishop said. “Jalen is not afraid to take and hit the big shot in pressure situations.  I am expecting Jalen to come in and be very productive as a freshman even playing one of the toughest positions in college basketball.”

  1. Hello Kevin my name is Coach Mass, at least that is what the kids at Oakland High call me. I am the strength/performance Coach for the basketball program at Oakland High. You are right about your assessment of Jalen, who was joy to Coach and develop. I first starting training Jalen when he was in the 8th grade and watched grow in to an exceptional athlete, person and basketball player whose best is yet to come. Thank you fro noticing that the staff at Oakland High, over the years has done a solid in developing ball players who are great students as well.
