6-foot-8 Chad Haysbert has changed his mind. He thought the life path he had chosen was the correct one but grew to conclude more appropriate options will be in his future.
So after averaging a team-leading 15 points, seven rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game as a Center High senior and determining Houston Baptist was where he should be next, Haysbert reached the decision to decline the HB offer, enroll at American River College (ARC) and play his freshman year for Coach Mark Giorgi.
"It was too far away," Haysbert offered. Also, he felt he didn't get the whole picture during his visit there before he initially decided. "But I want to get back in the mix of things."

The good news is that he is eligible to transfer after this season at ARC because he was eligible coming out of high school. There are a number of coaches who should be interested in this timeline.
As for Giorgi's squad, Haybert said, "we have some good talent coming in and it's a matter of bonding. We should do pretty good." One of those players is former Center High teammate Daniel Smith, a 6-foot-3 backcourter.
