UC Davis lands a transfer

Coach Jim Les and his UC Davis staff have struck again, this time signing 6-foot-8, 225 pound Igor "Iggy" Nujic.

The Perth, Australia native is currently a sophomore at Texas San Antonio but will be transferring to Aggieland when the school year concludes.

So why the Sacramento Valley for Nujic?

"The place I'm at now is a commuter school and being on the Davis campus had a totally different feel. It's also a different climate. The California air was nice and crisp when I visited. I also liked what Coach Les is trying to do and the facilities are great and the academics bigtime."

Asked what Aggie fans will see from him after he redshirts the 2012-13 season, Nujic said, "I'm not a freak athlete but very skilled and smart. Shooting is probably my best asset. I'm definitely a faceup guy who can handle the ball and is good mentally on the court. I'm not looking for statistics but betterment, being part of a winning team."

In 32 Roadrunner games this season, which included five starts, he posted averages of 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds, shooting 42%, 36% and 76% respectively. Nujic was on the court for 18+ minutes each night.

What's most intriguing is his 14 points per game average in the last five games of the season, an obvious indicator of his game coming together.

He is currently majoring in business but looking to switch over to computer science. Nujic's 3.18 grade point average this year made him a Southland Conference All-Academic honoree.

A product of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), it's a scholarship institution where the nation's elite players come together to train and represent Australia.

6-foot-9 junior-to-be Josh Ritchart and 6-foot-7 sophomore-to-be JT Adenrele return to the Aggie frontcourt this coming season plus junior college signees 6-foot-10 Spencer Clayton and 6-foot-8 Clint Bozner will both be juniors in in 2012-13.

Now, make room for Nujic.
