You too, can became an excellent defender

Carrick Felix plays for Arizona State in the Pac-12 -- so why is his name being bandied about here?

The answer: because the 6-foot-6 Felix has become a defensive force as a senior after a prep career role as a scorer and an earlier college tenure hounded by inconsistency.

Here's the Doug Haller-penned article that brought this to light (but what's missing from it -- maybe it was covered in the chatroom with Haller -- is the why and how of Felix's transformation).

Making this even clearer: if you can run and jump, you have the capability of becoming a plus defender. What's funny is those two so-called prerequisites are capabilities held by a solid percentage of D-1 players yet those who actually become defensive stalwarts are miniscule. Felix wasn't going to make The Big Show on his offensive talents but now it's a story with at least the possibility of a different ending.
