Recounting Friday's Nor Cal JUCO Summer Jamboree

First off, a big thank you goes out to Gerry Freitas for putting on the Nor Cal JUCO Summer Jamboree and also for the efficiency and professionalism of the event.

Below are some initial one day impressions of those on the court but do keep in mind that rosters can and will be different come November and even individuals may have changed locations at that point. In no particular order::

* Dan Afeaki, 6-foot-9, sophomore, Skyline

Not necessarily an above-the-rim talent but his body is ready, he can score inside with both hands and looks like he can nightly win his position. Would like to see him get more touches.

* Elijah White, 5-foot-8, sophomore, Skyline

He and Nate Vieira of DeAnza engaged in a very intriguing battle of sub-six-footers playing the point -- blur on blur.

Nate Vieira, 5-foot-9, sophomore, DeAnza

Still want to see a consistent outside shot all season long but he's quick-on-quick and looks more comfortable leading the offense this season. Didn't see any forcing of the action.

* Rico Nuno, 6-foot-6, freshman, Diablo Valley

He displayed both the best court vision and sense of what to do next with the ball of anyone yesterday -- makes decisions quicker than Watson the computer. Smooth and confident, he's also the next Jaycob Velasco regarding a big with three-point accuracy.

* Damion Banford, 6-foot-6, freshman, Diablo Valley

The second member of Coach Steve Coccimiglio's freshman tag team in the middle, he'll be backing up Nuno this season.

* Spencer Clark, 6-foot-4, freshman, Diablo Valley

Hard to get a handle on his skills set in this short period of exposure but he was very active on the court and on the boards.

* Larenzo Graham, 6-foot-1, sophomore, West Valley

Solid body, good mix of outside-shooting ability and dribble-drive proficiency, doesn't force anything.

* Chris Turner, 6-foot-4, freshman, DeAnza

Very thin but enjoyed a few good moments. Looks like he is already effective as a catch-and-shoot wing.

* Jordan Belton, 6-foot, sophomore, DeAnza

Showed more dribble-drive shooting guard efficiency than quarterbacking at 6-feet (but of course he's paired up with Vieira), has good strength and uses it in heading to the hoop and getting his shot off.

* Stephen Dorsey, 6-foot-6, sophomore, Monterey Peninsula

THE most dominant player of all yesterday -- will be the king of alley-oops this season. Already has the body of a professional and will average a double-double for Coach Blake Spiering. His height and strengths say DII but with plus DI athleticism.

* Will Burkett, 6-foot-6, sophomore, Monterey Peninsula

Showed once again the effortless form and accuracy on his shot from outside, is a great catch-and-shoot player who needs strength in order to add an effective dribble-drive game

* Parker Farris, 6-foot-4, sophomore, Santa Rosa Junior College

In his first game of the day, he buried a pair of treys in the first minute and a half -- will likely be Coach Craig McMillan's leading scorer.

* Gabe Bealer, 6-foot-6, sophomore, CCSF

Plays with the confidence of a team leader, extreme jumper who also nailed a couple of jumpers outside the paint in one game yesterday.

* Janvier Alaby, 6-foot-2, sophomore, Foothill

Solid scorer and willing passer, looks like he can play at the lower DI level

Apologies to those players we missed on.
