Cañada College with a marvelous season

Cañada College's basketball record currently stands at 24-6. It was 5-22 last season, Coach Mike Reynoso's first as the head coach in Redwood City. Such a turnaround is simply remarkable.

The Colts take on 31-2 Saddleback College at 7:00 p.m. tonight. Since the game is taking place at Cerritos College, maybe, just maybe, the CC's in and around the facility where the game is being played will make it feel like home.

Here's Coach Reynoso in his words:

"At the beginning of the season, I thought our team would be a championship contender if we put it all together and played the way we were coached to. The roster had everything it needed to be competitive in our conference and for the state title. Our best asset is our versatility offensively and defensively. We set our goals high for each season, we set the foundation last year with a great group of young men who played hard and never gave up on the college, themselves, or me the entire year. So although we didn't have success in terms of wins and losses, we did exactly what we set out to do in setting the foundation for where Cañada Basketball will be in the future.

The difference with this team is the talent we have. We are 10 strong and each day in practice we battle and guys get at each other every day. Last year, it was hard to all battle at an even level, what with the difference in talent. What we want at Cañada is players who want to strive for the highest level of competition. By the time you leave our program, you will know exactly what you're capable of, and will be pushed to your limits to prepare you for the next level.

We managed a Final Four team by putting in a lot of time developing our player's craft and by putting a game plan in of being the toughest defensive team on the floor. We also strive to be the toughest team on the floor and patience is the other key. Anything worthwhile takes time as one of my mentors once taught me. It just happened a little quicker with us, but that is due to the great work ethic of my players and staff in our pursuit for excellence."

Putting aside trying to non-partisan, here's hoping for an All Nor Cal Final!
