CPP and Chico in 2015 West Region tourney

"Cal Poly Pomona and Chico State's men's basketball teams have been selected for the 2015 NCAA West Region Tournament, it was announced Sunday.

With Azusa Pacific set to host the eight-team West Region Tournament, the third-seeded Broncos will challenge sixth-seeded Dixie State and the eighth-seeded Wildcats will face third-seeded Cal Baptist in first-round matchups on Friday.

This year marks the Broncos 11th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance, third consecutive, and is just the third-ever meeting with the Red Storm. The two squads faced each other in the first round of last season's NCAA tournament, with CPP walking away with 73-63 victory.

Cal Poly Pomona is coming off of a 62-57 overtime victory Saturday against Chico State, which earned the Broncos its second Conference Championship Tournament title in three years.

The Broncos enter the tournament with a record of 23-6 and are led by CCAA Player of the Year Terrence Drisdom, who is currently averaging 16 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.

CPP also enters NCAA post-season with the nations best defense, allowing an average of just 55.8 points to its opponents.

Chico State has qualified for the NCAA Championship Tournament for a fourth straight season, marking the longest consecutive run in the history of the program.

The Wildcats are 22-7 on the season and were named the regular-season champions of the California Collegiate Athletic Association just before falling to Cal Poly Pomona in the CCAA Conference tournament Saturday night.

Chico State and Cal Baptist met in last year's opening round in San Bernardino, a game the Wildcats won 77-71 to take their first step toward their first NCAA West Regional title and trip to the Elite Eight.

Much like Cal Poly Pomona, Chico also ranks among the best in the nation defensively, ranking third behind the Broncos and Gannon University with a an average of 60.4 points allowed per game.

APU drew the top seed and right to host the West Regional. The Cougars will take on No. 8 seed Western Oregon in the opening round. The other first-round matchups are: No. 4 seed Dixie State vs. No. 5 seed Cal Poly Pomona and No. 2 seed BYU-Hawaii vs. No. 7 seed Seattle Pacific.

The winner of Friday's Chico State-California Baptist game will face either BYU-Hawaii or Seattle Pacific on Saturday. The Regional Championship game is scheduled for Monday."
