6-foot-5 Troy (Armijo High) Anderson, an All-State selection at San Joaquin Delta College due to his double-double production this season, has signed to attend Regis University in Denver. He averaged 16.0 points plus 12.9 rebounds a game as well as 3.1 blocks and 2.4 steals for Coach Rich Ressa and the Mustang program in the 2015-15 season.
Why the choice of Regis? " Mostly because I'm comfortable with the coaches. I know they'll help in me in becoming a better player and person."
It was a unique recruitment of sorts. New Regis Head Coach Brady Bergeson, a former Sacramento State assistant, was running the Western Oregon program at the time and offered Anderson at the end of this season. Once Bergeson accepted his new position in Colorado, he again pursued Anderson.
So what will Rangers fans be witnessing from the new signee? A modest Anderson offered, "Hard work and defense, getting stops."
He sees himself playing multiple positions. "I'm versatile. I can play the wing and post using my length and athleticism."
Anderson will major in Marketing.
What most fans don't realize is that with the elation and honor of getting school paid for, comes a sense of alleviation. "When I finally signed the papers, I felt relief, definitely. I worked hard and it paid off."
For someone who had just a single offer -- San Joaquin Delta College -- coming out of high school, Anderson exemplifies the dream. But in his case, he turned it into reality.
