From Cal State Los Angeles athletics: Cal State L.A.'s men's basketball team has added a second talented newcomer to its program.
Tahron Morrison, a 6-foot-8-inch forward from Solano College, has joined the Golden Eagles, Cal State L.A. head coach Dieter Horton announced on Wednesday. He averaged 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game at Solano.
Morrison originally signed with Holy Names in 2014, but did not compete at the school.
"We are very excited to have Tahron as a Golden Eagle," Horton said. "He fills a need that we have on the front line and brings versatility to both forward positions. Tahron's size and upside are very exciting. We cannot wait to have him on campus."
Morrison attended Vanden High School, where he helped his squad reach the second round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs and finish with a 22-7 record. He was his school's Player of the Year and earned first-team All-Solano County Athletic Conference and All-City honors. He was also listed in the Norcal Prep Top-40.
His dad, Teryl, played professional baseball in the Cleveland Indians' organization and he has a twin sister, Tahvia, who plays basketball at UC Riverside.
Morrison is the second talented newcomer to join the Cal State L.A. program. Earlier, the Golden Eagles announced the additions of Sam Newman, a freshman guard a 6-foot-3-inch guard from Ipswich, England.
Cal State L.A. was 10-16 overall and 8-14 in conference play last season and was one of the national leaders in defense. The Golden Eagles were ranked 14th in the country in scoring defense after allowing opponents just 62.9 points per game. Cal State L.A. was also among the national leaders in field-goal percentage defense after allowing opponents to shoot just 41.7 percent from the floor.
