Thank you to Mark Jones/ESPN for posting this on June 5: "Happy Birthday s/o to a true hero, John Carlos. Olympian, portrait of undistilled courage. 70 years old."
Then on June 6 and also from Jones: "Today Tommie Smith turns 70 years old. A "hero" as in a person of distinguished courage,ability.Woke up the world."
Sometimes a non-verbal statement of principle is the most eloquent -- Carlos and Smith certainly did so despite the scorn, hatred and more they knew would be directed at them by the cowardly and racist demagogues, many who resided 'respectably' in mainstream America.
