Ed Graney on UNLV's 6-foot-10 Chris Wood not being drafted last week. The tell:
"...Wood just didn’t play hard all the time for the Rebels.
He sulked a lot. He took possessions off.
These are not debatable points..."
So elements entirely within the control of any player led to this public embarrassment.
So why no embarrassment about giving less than a best effort each game? Will his tweets from draft night be just mere words? Time will tell.
But this is not really to bash any certain player, rather to use it as an example.
This is about the cancer of entitlement twined with laziness often being tolerated in AAU ball, sometimes even in college, for multiple and varied reasons. But not in the NBA or other professional leagues where such deficiencies will cost not only oneself but also others, such as general managers, coaches and teammates, their livelihood. To coddle or not to coddle isn't a question asked at the top levels of basketball.
